Cancellation Policy
Please give as much notice as possible if you will miss your piano lesson. If you will miss a lesson, out of courtesy, please cancel it online through your My Music Staff account.
If you are sick, please stay home. You may switch to an online lesson during your regularly scheduled lesson time if you are feeling up to it!
Your tuition reserves a specific weekly lesson time just for you! In the event you are not at your lesson, I will record a video lesson for you at your regular lesson time and send it through LessonMate to help keep you on track for the week. I am only able to send a video lesson if I’m notified ahead of time that you will miss your lesson. If you end up missing more than 2 lessons in a row, video lessons will be paused until I hear your progress either in person or via recording so I am making relevant video lessons for you. No makeup lessons are offered unless the teacher cancels the lesson.
Monthly tuition is non refundable. If you wish to discontinue piano lessons, please give as much notice as possible.
Calendar
Lessons generally follow the Leon County School calendar. There are 36 piano lesson scheduled for each school year and 6 in the summer. There are no lessons on Labor Day, Thanksgiving Break Week, Winter Break Weeks, Spring Break Week, or Memorial Day. If you are not able to attend summer lessons in person, a video lesson will be given that week. The calendar can be viewed on your My Music Staff account.
Books
For in person lessons, I will purchase books for each student and include them on the next month’s billing statement. Books for new students generally cost between $25-$30.
For online lessons, I will send links to specific books for students or parents to purchase on your own.
Practicing
Yes, practicing is important! It is also very important to have a piano or full size, touch/weight sensitive keyboard with a pedal at home to practice on. Each week you will be given an assignment of what to practice and how to practice it. Younger children will often need adult assistance with daily practice. A very beginning student may start with 15-20 minutes a day of practice with time increasing the more advanced they become. It is important to come to your lesson with your books and having prepared. However, I understand that some weeks can be a struggle to fit practicing in. If you have not practiced on a given week, please do not cancel your lesson! There is still a lot to learn at a lesson even without practicing.
Events
There are several TMTA events to participate in throughout the year for students who are ready and wish to do so including the Sonata-Sonatina Festival in February and District Student Day in May. Students are also encouraged to perform in my studio Christmas and Spring Piano Recitals held at one of the FSU Recital Halls.
